'After a while, portable digital devices will accompany us everywhere, giving us constant contact with other digital devices and with other people. Electricity meters and water flow system alarms, cars and other material objects of our everyday life will be ready at any moment to report on his condition via the Internet. " Bill Gates 'Business @ the Speed of Thought' M2M (Machine-to-Machine) refers to technologies, which allow electronic devices to communicate among themselves or with the person. To date, based on this technology is built a lot of multifunction systems using wired, wireless or a hybrid link between its components – machines (M2M-terminals). It is the rapid development of wireless communication (GSM, UMTS) technology M2M is not only prevalent in the existing areas of activity, but gave rise to new directions and control of business processes. According to independent analyst firm Berg Insight the number of connections to wireless communications networks around the world in 2008 amounted to 47.7 million specifically for the needs of M2M. The company predicts that by 2014 the number of connections for M2M will grow to 187 million despite the fact that the technology M2M appeared long ago and is already prevalent in the world's leading countries, in Ukraine it has not yet become mainstream.
In This is primarily due to weak awareness of the population (both natural persons and organizations) are not only about the possibilities of M2M, and that such systems exist. Increasingly growing interest in M2M caused not only by the appearance of cheap MFPs remote monitoring and transmitting information, but also lowering the cost of data (SMS, CSD, GPRS / EDGE) for mobile operators. Moreover, the leading Ukrainian mobile operators even developed special tariff plans as to meet the needs of wireless systems based on M2M-technology (Kyivstar – packages 'M2M', MTS – package 'GPRS Monitor'). The emphasis is on cost reduction transmission of packet traffic, as namely GPRS / EDGE technology is considered the most promising for the development of wireless systems.
